DONALD W. DeFEHR, DIRECTOR

Mr. DeFehr began his career as member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1963, serving as a general duty member. Traffic duties were later assigned including radar operation and highway patrol. He was selected for the Identification Section and sent to the Canadian Police College in Ottawa, Ontario. Subsequent to the successful completion of Identification training he successfully completed a course on the Applications of Surveying Principles and Techniques to Police Investigations in the Faculty of Engineering at Carleton University, Ottawa.

During his eighteen years as an Identification Specialist he received additional training in Serial Number Restoration and Arson Investigation courses and Regionalized Identification Workshops. He also attended the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology as a part time student for two semesters studying photography. He has had occasion to lecture on specialty areas at Regional Seminars, Edmonton City Police and the Canadian Police College. He has given evidence in all levels of court in the Provinces of Alberta and British Columbia.

After his retirement from the RCMP in 1988, he has remained actively involved in his specialties as they relate to the Insurance industry as well as assisting various Law Firms throughout the Province of British Columbia.

Donald has completed a Justice Institute sponsored Scientific Content Analysis course, which presents an effective method for obtaining information and detecting deception.

Since June of 1996 he has been an approved instructor for the Justice Institute instructing Basic Security Training I & II.

Donald has also been elected to the board of the Private Investigators Association of British Columbia by his peers and has served a term as President of the association.

LARRY E. SUKUT, FIELD MANAGER

Mr. Sukut brings to Summit Security Group numerous years in management. He has had formal training in business administration plus human resource courses relating to personnel in every aspect of business.

Larry was employed in management by Wardair Canada Ltd. for fifteen years until they moved their entire operation to Toronto. Twelve of those years were spent in Yellowknife, NWT where he managed their northern operations. During his years with Wardair, he was also responsible for setting up and maintaining security for various dignitaries that flew on Wardair aircraft throughout the north.

In 1982 rather than move east, he decided to remain in the west and moved his family to Kamloops where he purchased a family business. He managed and operated it successfully for 14 years.

Larry has been with Summit Security since March of 2001, and has proven to be a vital part of our operations. Larry is the Field Manager for the Canadian Pacific Railway account, where he manages the security for the maintenance crews throughout British Columbia.

JEFFREY DeFEHR, DIRECTOR

Jeff was first licensed as a Private Investigator in 1990 and gained two years of experience before returning to University College of the Cariboo. He returned in 1996 and has displayed his skills as office manager and site manager, the latter in situations dealing with security.

Jeff has demonstrated his skills in photography and has been approved by the Insurance Corporation of B.C and Workers Compensation Board as a qualified investigator. He has also had occasion to successfully complete assignments from independent insurance adjusters.

He brings with him experience from eight years in the Food and Service Industry. During those years he gained knowledge in management and employee relations.

In July 2002 Jeff was privileged to be asked to go to Toronto to assist with the security for the Pope’s visit to Canada. Jeff was responsible for the security of the stages which the Pope spoke from, he worked closely with the various polices forces onsite. Jeff also assisted with the organizing and setup of all access points to the CNE and Downsview grounds in Toronto.

Over the past years he has also be involved with concert and event security. He has also had the privilege to provide VIP security for the WWE in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. He has also managed the security for Canadian Idol in Calgary 2003 and 2005.

Jeff had the privilege of serving the Board of Directors of the Private Investigators Association of British Columbia as Treasurer.

STANLEY G.A. TWIST, PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR  - SECURITY

Mr. Twist began his career as member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1962.  He served as a General Duties member in two man detachments and 14 man detachments.  He demonstrated an attribute to perform all investigations in a competent manner.  Promoted to Cpl. In 1972 and transferred to Saskatoon General Investigation Section. This required you to assist detachments in serious investigations and work actively with other police departments. 

Selected to a Polygraph position in 1976.  He completed a six month Professional Polygraph examiners course in New York and with the Michigan State Police.  He received a transfer to Prince George B.C.  as a Sergeant.  In 1982 He was transferred to Prince George Detachment and promoted to S/Sgt. supervising 12 RCMP members as watch commander.

In 1984 he was selected as a Section NCO acting as a direct liaison with Detachment Commanders  in behalf of the Officer Commanding the Sub Div. In Prince George.  In 1987 he was transferred to Kamloops to perform the same duties under the direction of the Officer Commanding Kamloops Sub Div.

He retired from the RCMP after 30 years in Kamloops.  In  1992 he had an opportunity to work and form Summit Security Group with Don DeFehr.  He has been actively involved in Insurance investigations and assisting Law firms in in British Columbia.

Since June of 1996 has been an approved instructor at the Thompson Regional University in Kamloops to instruct Basic Security Training.

He has been actively involved in Civil and Criminal investigations conducted by Summit Security since 1992.

RICHARD MATTE

Mr. Matte became a member of the RCMP in August 1971.  Upon completion of training in Regina he was transferred to Burnaby, B.C. and worked in a number of positions including General Duties, Freeway Patrol & Hit/Run Detail.  In 1977 he was transferred as the second in charge of Kelvington, Saskatchewan a position which he held until 1980 when he was selected then moved to the Forensic Identification unit in Nanaimo, B.C..  During his time in the Forensic field he held positions as being in charge of the Smithers, Quesnel and Kamloops Forensic Identification units.

In addition to operations field units Richard also held a position as an instructor at the RCMP Training Academy in Regina for a period of four years.  Since leaving the RCMP in 2007 he has been contracted by the Justice Education Society of B.C.  a number of times assisting in the training of police and prosecutors in Guatemala, Ethiopia and most recently in Mexico.  He also continues to periodically instruct a Crime Scene Investigators course at the RCMP training centre in Chilliwack, B.C.  Richard also Instruct The Basic Security Training course at Thompson Rivers University.
